I found this place when I randomly stumbled on the comprehensive, home-cooked website. Chef Edwards used to be located across the street in (what I hear was) a classic rib shack, but moved due to construction on the whole block. Now it's in an inconspicuous little shop across the way. Follow your nose....
Perfect. The place is tiny, immaculate and cute as a goddamn button. A counter with a few shiny red seats and 3 tiny tables make it half family dinner and half sixties diner. My first trip I ordered take-out, because I did not expect anything like the place I walked into to pick it up.
Chef Edwards greeted me with a big warm smile like God himself. Why was I getting take-out? Never again.
All the classics. Pork, beef, chicken, ribs, brisket, links, slabs, mmm! Collared greens, cole slaw, potato salad, black eyed peas, cornbread and mad meal combos. It's all served at insanely reasonable prices.
Holy cow, pig, and little chickies. The meat is tender and juicy, a falls right off the bone. The spices are like a good wine...certainly present and first, but then developing and morphing, growing stronger and robust after a few seconds. All the side dishes are kick ass.
It's Chef Edwards, and he knows what he's doing. He has an easy laugh and exudes a warmth and charisma that's infectious. There's surely a seat reserved for him in heaven. Maybe we can all catch that goodness vibe if we eat enough of his BBQ.
What a find! Why are you still reading this? Get your ass over there!
